Best All-Inclusive in Jamaica! Everything you need to know

Table of Contents

We just came back from five days at Couples Swept Away in Negril, Jamaica — and honestly, we were blown away. It was our first time in Jamaica, and we’d gone back and forth before booking. Was it worth the price? Was it safe? Would the resort live up to the glowing reviews? After reading countless posts online, checking hurricane season dates, and weighing if it fit our budget, we finally decided to go. Spoiler: it exceeded our expectations on nearly every front.

Couples Swept Away is part of the Couples Resorts brand, known for tailoring to adults, romance, and honeymoon-style getaways. We weren’t on our honeymoon, but we wanted something quiet, relaxing, and warm — this checked all the boxes.

First Impressions: A Warm Jamaican Welcome

We knew Canada had travel advisories in place for Jamaica, so we landed with some nerves. But once we arrived at Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay, those worries started to ease. The airport was modern and air-conditioned (a welcome relief after the tropical heat), and the staff were genuinely friendly. After checking in at the Couples Lounge, we were offered drinks and snacks while we waited for our transfer. Within about 25 minutes, we were on a bus heading to Negril. Just a quick note: while tips aren’t mandatory, it’s common courtesy to tip the staff who bring your bags to the bus and the driver once you arrive at the resort.

The bus ride itself takes about 1.5 hours, following the scenic oceanside road through towns like Lucea, Hopewell, and Sandy Bay. Honestly, it felt long, but it also gave us our first look at Jamaica outside the resort bubble. We felt safe the entire way, and by the time we pulled into Couples Swept Away, we were already starting to relax.

Check-In Magic: From Champagne to Comfort

From the second we stepped off the bus, service impressed us. Welcome champagne? Check. Smooth check-in? Check. Our bags carried to our room while we were personally escorted? Check.

The room itself was beautiful — spotless, spacious, and well-stocked with everything from beer, wine, rum, and soda to plenty of water. The décor felt fresh, the air conditioning worked like a dream (a lifesaver in 38°C heat), and the oversized balcony became one of our favourite spots to unwind after a day on the beach.

One thing to note: Couples Swept Away is spread across a fairly large property with no elevators. That wasn’t an issue for us, but it’s worth keeping in mind if stairs are a concern.

Seven Mile Beach: A Slice of Paradise

This resort sits right on Seven Mile Beach, one of the most famous beaches in Jamaica — and for good reason. Crystal-clear turquoise water, soft white sand, and endless sunshine made every beach day magical.

The only drawback? Vendors. Even during shoulder season, we noticed a few. Some were pushy, but a polite “no thank you” was enough to keep things moving. Couples also has security who ensure guests aren’t bothered if they don’t want to be. On the flip side, if you want to engage with local vendors, there’s absolutely nothing wrong with that.

Dining Delights: Flavours That Surprised Us

One of the biggest highlights of our stay was the food. Every meal impressed us — beautifully plated, full of flavor, and with enough variety to keep things exciting.

  • Lemongrass (Asian fusion) was one of our favorites, though it does require reservations.
  • Feathers is the resort’s steakhouse, also reservation-only, and the menu is stacked with elevated dishes — think cuts of steak, lamb, and duck. A great option for a romantic, fine-dining evening.
  • The Palms became our go-to for breakfast. Instead of room service, we preferred a full buffet spread here. The Palms serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner daily, no reservations required, and the food leans more toward Jamaican flavors. Every meal here was fresh and genuinely tasty.
  • Scotch Bonnet was perfect for casual Jamaican fare, serving lunch until 5 p.m. and then reopening late at night (10:30 p.m.–5 a.m.) — ideal if you’re craving a snack after drinks.

Overall, the dining was a solid 9/10 for us.

Beyond the Beach: Sports, Spa & Hidden Perks

Couples Swept Away has more than just the beach and restaurants. The sports complex was fantastic — I personally made use of the lap pool, while Harlee opted for a spa treatment using our Resort Credit. It worked out perfectly: I got my swim in, she got pampered, and we both felt refreshed.

The resort also offers tennis, a full gym, yoga, and water sports like snorkelling, sailing, paddle boarding, golf, and scuba diving — all included. It really does live up to the “all-inclusive” promise, not just in dining but in activities too.

Atmosphere & Vibe: Romance Woven Into Every Enchanting Corner

Couples Swept Away is designed exclusively for couples, and you feel that intention everywhere you go. The vibe is intimate and romantic — no noisy spring break crowds, no bachelor parties, no large groups taking over the pool. Instead, the resort attracts honeymooners, anniversary celebrators, and couples (like us) who are simply looking for a peaceful beach escape where the focus is on each other.

Walking through the property feels calm and unhurried. There’s soft reggae or live acoustic music in the evenings, plenty of quiet corners to sit with a drink, and hammocks tucked under palm trees where you can nap together or just sway and watch the waves. It’s the kind of environment that encourages connection rather than distraction.

Now, the resort itself isn’t brand new — you’ll notice areas where it feels a little dated. But renovations are ongoing, and the balance of upkeep and upgrades meant we never felt like it was run down. Our room was spotless, the main spaces were cared for, and the tropical landscaping tied it all together.

In fact, the lush greenery became one of our favorite things. Pathways lined with towering palms and flowering plants gave the resort a tucked-away, almost secret-garden feel. Even though Couples Swept Away is a fairly large property, the design and landscaping make it feel cozy and private, like your own little slice of paradise carved into Seven Mile Beach.

The Real Cost of Paradise: Our Exact Breakdown

For full transparency, here’s exactly what we paid:

  • 5-night stay at Couples Swept Away: $2,328.29 CAD
  • Incidental deposit at check-in: $300 USD (refundable if unused)

That price included all food, drinks, nightly entertainment, water sports, and use of the sports complex. Considering the level of service, quality dining, and unbeatable location on Seven Mile Beach, we felt it was worth every dollar.

Final Verdict: Why Couples Swept Away Wins Our Hearts

So, is Couples Swept Away the best all-inclusive in Negril — maybe even in all of Jamaica? For us, the answer is yes. It easily ranks among the top five.

  • The location on Seven Mile Beach is unbeatable.
  • The dining is consistently excellent, with options ranging from casual Jamaican buffets to fine dining steakhouses.
  • The staff are warm, funny, and truly elevate the entire experience.
  • The resort caters specifically to couples, which makes it unique compared to bigger, more generic all-inclusives.

Sure, there are a few dated spots and the occasional beach vendor, but those felt minor compared to everything we loved about our stay.

If you’re dreaming of a romantic Jamaican escape, Couples Swept Away deserves to be at the top of your list.

OTA Insider Travel Tips: Secrets You’ll Be Glad You Knew

Walk the beach early. If you’re staying at Couples Swept Away, wake up early and take a walk on Seven Mile Beach between 6:30 and 7 a.m. Vendors aren’t out yet, the sand is freshly raked, and the only sounds are the waves. For us, it felt like we had the Caribbean all to ourselves — the most peaceful and romantic moment of the trip.

Plan breakfast strategically. Head to The Palms at least two hours before breakfast closes. Although it’s advertised until 10:30 a.m., we noticed that popular items like banana French toast, bacon, and eggs would start running out by around 9:30 a.m. If you want the full spread, don’t wait until the last minute.
